2025 FMB Color Guard Audition Information
Video submissions for the 2025 FMB Color Guard will be accepted through Saturday, April 26, 2025.
Returning members do NOT have to submit an audition, but they must communicate with the band office about returning.
Video content guidelines
Your audition video should contain the following:
- A short introduction of yourself (full name, high school or community college)
- A demonstration of the routine provided by MSU. For the full video, click here. For the step-by-step instructional walkthrough, click here. The music for the routine can be found at this link. If you have trouble accessing the videos, please contact the band office at 662-325-2713.
- At the conclusion of the MSU routine, please add at least 16 counts and no more than 32 counts of original work. This is your chance to show off.
- The routine should be performed with a flag. Sabres, rifles, etc., and dance are not necessary for this audition.
- After your routine is complete, please reset and demonstrate 16 counts of basic marching while doing drop spins in the same tempo as the music for your prepared routine. This should be done as a left slide march. Next, demonstrate 16 counts of basic marching in a right slide. During this, you should do a carve into a toss; this can be a single or a double. Through all of this, use a roll step, not a jazz step.
Technical considerations
- The student must wear black dance pants or shorts, black fitted tank top and appropriate shoes. Hair and makeup should flatter the individual.
- The entire video must be done in one, continuous, unedited take. In other words, do not turn off the camera between the different parts of the audition.
- The camera should be stable and facing the student at a distance that allows the routine and facial expressions to be viewed clearly.
Submission
- Upload your video to YouTube as an “unlisted” video or to another file sharing service like Google Drive, Dropbox, or Box.
- Secure a download link for the file that you can share with us. Please check to make sure that the permissions will allow us to view it.
- A recommendation letter from your current band director is required. Please contact the band office if you have questions about this requirement.
- Fill out the online application and provide all the information requested.
- Submissions are being accepted now and will be accepted until Saturday, April 26 at 5:00 pm CDT. You will be notified of your status within 2-3 weeks of that date.
- Your video must be one that was recorded after February 1, 2025. No older videos are allowed.
