MSU Band Auxiliaries
All members of these auxiliary units are eligible for a band service award.
Colorguard
The Colorguard is comprised of talented students who use a variety of equipment including flags, over-sized flags, swing flags and rifles to enhance the visual impact of the Famous Maroon Band. Through hard work and dedication, members of the guard increase and refine their spinning and dance abilities to put together crowd pleasing performances. They perform as a part of the FMB and help to promote spirit and excitement at the MSU football games. Members are selected at auditions held in the spring.
Feature Twirlers
Feature twirlers perform with the Famous Maroon Band during pre-game and
halftime shows. Their purpose is to work with the band to add to the visual appeal of the band through baton twirling. Each twirler possesses twirling skill that has been perfected over years of hard work and practice. Fundamental elements such as multiple spins, one baton, and two-baton work are standard. Feature twirlers serve a very intricate and visual part of the Famous Maroon Band. They are chosen by audition during the spring.
